Named for Agatha Christie, the Agatha Awards honor mystery and crime writers who write in the cozy style, a subgenre of crime fiction lacking graphic violence or sex and typically featuring amateur sleuths solving small-town crimes. The awards are presented by Malice Domestic Ltd. to recognize writing in six categories: best novel (succeeded in 2013 by best contemporary novel), best first novel, best historical novel, best short story, best nonfiction, and best children’s/young adult fiction.
