Tony Horwitz Prize: history

Tony Horwitz

The Society of American Historians created the Tony Horwitz Prize to honor an author whose work in American history “holds wide appeal and enduring public significance.” The prize was first awarded in 2020. The award is named after the late Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, historian and staff writer for The New Yorker, who died in 2019 at the age of 60. Horwitz was a former president of the society, whose administrative office is located at Columbia University.
