Pulitzer Prize: biography, memoir, autobiography

In his will, publisher Joseph Pulitzer provided funding to create the Pulitzer Prize. The prize for biography formerly honored "a distinguished biography, autobiography or memoir by an American author," but memoir and autobiography are now honored as a separate category, with their own prize.
