Review: "Chances Are . . . ," Richard Russo

By Paul Carrier

Three boomers — Lincoln, Teddy and Mickey -- 66-year-old friends since their college days in Connecticut, reunite in 2015 at a home on Martha’s Vineyard that Lincoln has inherited from his mother.

While Lincoln contemplates selling the place to stabilize his family’s finances, the three men rekindle their friendship and brood over the fate of Jacy, a classmate whom each of them secretly loved while they were in college.

In 1971, following graduation, Jacy spent a weekend on the Vineyard with the trio, only to vanish after she left the island.
